Coping With Your Fears

I think hesitation, in one way or another, has always been a part of everyone’s lives. There are certainly moments when I feel that I am not good enough or capable of doing a task. After a few years, I just realized that it was actually the fear of trying or the fear of failing that predominates me, therefore leading me not to find out at all. The effect would be I’d forever ask myself “What if…” My confidence was at risk for quite a long time.

Looking for the Problem

Self-motivation is a very important thing. You would be amazed at just how much you can actually do if you start to trust yourself. Determine your fears then look forways that will slowly help you get rid of them. Accept the fact that you are afraid, but equally encourage yourself that you can successfully get over the fear. I remember using my engraved zippos since I was always scared of the dark since I was a kid.

The entire process requires you to accept the factthat you need help. I know a lot of people who deny that they are going through a difficult phase in their lives. Their mouth say a lot of things but their actions show their true colors. There are habits that develop through the sense of fear such as biting nails, walking back and forth. I, personally, stack cigarette cases. Identify your problem and tell yourself that you can change it.

Finding Ways

You do not have to motivate yourself or get over the fear alone. Your family and friends can be excellent support systems. These individuals can slowly desensitize you. If you choose the wrong people, your fears could get worse. I slowlyexpose myself to the fear so that my mind and body will slowly recognize that it is a normal occurrence and that it poses no threat to me whatsoever. Instead of avoiding the fear completely, I spend time for it daily.

As for my fear of the dark, I learned to redirect my thoughts on other things if I feel like the fear is becomingstronger at one point or another. I would think of my cool colibri lighters more instead of creating images of ghosts and the paranormal lurking from every corner of my dark little room. You should learn how to control your thoughts as well. Changing your focus away from the fear will help you overcome better.

It Takes Time

Do not expect changes to occurovernight. It actually took me a full year before my fear of the dark was completely gone. Until now, I still get a little cringe if thunder comes along with the dark. I have friends who go through years and even through more drastic measures like counseling and medications just to get over their doubt and fears completely. It is possible for others never to recover. I learned to understandthe fact the everyone gets scared, even for just a second.
